Alhamdu-lilaah
The First ever Islamic Quiz Competition held at the Nurul Islam Mosque turned out to be a resounding success. The idea of the quiz came about during discussions by the Nurul Islam Education Forum (NIEF), at one of their initial meetings. This event became the focus to round of the education programme of the Nurul Islam Madrasah, headed by Sheikh Ahmad Daniels. The madrasah staff eagerly participated in the selection of the competitors. These competitors were then prepared and groomed for the competition by the NIEF members. Adela Minton and Sokieya Noordien played a major role here in the selection and preparation of the questions, as well as in preparing the students to compete. The questions were drawn from the madrasah syllabus as well as from the Muslim Views.
The other members, which include Imam Toyer Hedricks (one of the imams of the mosque) and Anwar Ebrahim (the chairperson) all assisted in designing the programme and making all necessary preparations for this momentous event.
Imam Faiek Bassardien, who recently returned after completing Hajj, made the opening dua and enticed the audience with his opening speech.
A number of prominent members from the community were invited. Muallimah Mymoena Latief (wife of the late imam Ebrahim Latief, the first imam of the masjid) was one of the special guests. Farid Sayed (Editor of the Muslim Views) and popular columnist, Dr Salim Parker, also made an appearance.
Taj Akleler who served as the MC/ Quiz Master were on top form as usual, making sure that the programme flows without any problems.
As the Chairperson of the NIEF, I (Idrees Kamish) hereby wish to thank everyone who assisted to ensure the success of the momentous, historical event.
Congratulations to the NIEF for ensuring that this event became a huge success.
Finally, we need to acknowledge that the ultimate success of this event was mainly due to the eager participation of the students of the madrasah. We also want to congratulate the contestants and especially the winners of this competition.
